Canada’s capital city prepares to host pre-GA

Montréal AM 2010 strikes again! Our team of students from the University of Ottawa and the Canadian Federation of Medical Students’ (CFMS) Global Health Program (GHP) are working on a pre-GA for IFMSA newcomers and veteran global health addicts alike!

The pre-GA is a great opportunity for delegates to learn about Global Health and get acquainted with some of the initiatives of IFMSA, as well as network with other medical students, through attending one of the 3 day workshops being hosted at this summer’s pre-GA.

For any question or comment about the pre-GA, feel free to contact us at prega@montrealam2010.com.

The pre‐GA will be held in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada from July 27 to July 31, 2010.

Venue

Our pre‐GA Team has secured the best accommodation and conference venue for our IFMSA delegates. We are proud to host the pre‐GA at the Delta Ottawa Hotel and Suites, an outstanding four‐star establishment with international standards in comfort and service. The Delta Ottawa is located in the heart of downtown Ottawa, a few blocks away from Parliament Hill, Spark Street, the Rideau Canal, and the historic ByWard Market. The spacious rooms come equipped with high‐speed internet and offer all the luxuries of a first- class hotel to ensure our delegates enjoy their stay in our nation’s capital. To facilitate our workshops and events in comfort and style, our team has reserved the Delta’s meeting and dining facilities in their entirety.

Theme

As our nation’s capital, Ottawa is host to the headquarters of several national medical organizations, numerous NGOs, two of the country’s top universities, and several research institutes. This endowment of world class experts makes Ottawa ideally suited to host a pre‐GA that will set the standard for academic content for years to come. Our team will showcase many of our medical community’s initiatives and talents. For theme content, our pre‐GA Team is planning a lunchtime round table event, a pre‐GA workshop dedicated to the theme “Health and the City”, and a keynote address by Dr. Ronald Labonté, Canada Research Chair on Globalization and Health Equity.

Schedule

Generally speaking workshops will run 8:30 – 4:30pm, and there will be a lunchtime theme event on the 28th (or 29th) and a formal Dinner and Dance with Keynote address on the 30th.  Social program events and documentary screenings are being planned for the nights of the 27th – 29th.

Travel

We will provide a bus service to and from Montreal for 15€ (each way). We urge all delegates to fly into Montreal, as there is a more extensive international flight system, and to join us on the bus to the pre‐GA in Ottawa. Please note that if you choose to fly in and out through Ottawa, we will not provide a shuttle back from Montreal after the GA.

Registration

pre-GA registration fee = 180 EURO. Please note we’ve lowered our registration price for the pre-GA, from the previous projected price of 195 EURO.
