What is a general assembly (GA)?

IFMSA’s bi-annual General Assemblies (in March and August) bring together over 600 medical students to develop multinational projects and build partnerships in the areas of medical education, public health, human rights and reproductive health.

These activities include workshops, lectures and training sessions that engage participants in discussions regarding current global health issues. Finally, the Assemblies facilitate the organization of thousands of international exchanges between member countries.

Additionally, delegates debate and adopt IFMSA policy during general assemblies, which is then applied to initiatives in global health, human rights, and medical education.  The general assemblies also allow for the internal administration of the organization.

Montréal AM 2010 (July 31st, 2010 – August 6th, 2010): Health and the City

The general assembly is divided into two major events:

  1. The pre-General Assembly will be held in our national capital, hosted by medical students from University of Ottawa.

  2. The General Assembly (GA) features 7 days of meetings in Montréal’s Palais des Congrès - the delegates will attend standing committee sessions, executive plenaries, workshops, keynote speeches and regional meetings.  Delegates will stay at Delta Centre-ville.

Why participate?

  1. An exceptional opportunity for Canadian medical students to network with their international colleagues in a collaborative and crosscultural setting.

  2. A unique and unforgettable event for all delegates.
